Various types of fabrics are used in bags construction, such as Polyester, Nylon and Canvas. The following is a brief introduction about these three popular fabrics.
Polyester： Polyesters include naturally occurring chemicals, such as in the cutin of plant cuticles, as well as synthetics. Its common specifications include 150D, 210D, 300D, 420D, 600D, 900D, 1200D, 1680D, Microfiber and Satin.
Main advantage of Polyester: Easily dyed, strong, light weight, and resistant to shrinking, stretching, mildew and creasing. Sun resistant.
The disadvantage is that Polyester does not breathe. Fabric shine can be unattractive. Stains are difficult to remove. Not environmentally friendly.
Nylon: Nylon is a tough, lightweight, elastic synthetic polymer with a protein like chemical structure. Its common specifications include 70D, 210D, 420D, 840D, 1000D, 1680D.
70D: Mainly for cooler bag and handbag.
150D: Mainly for backpacks and computer bags.
210D: Mainly for drawstring bag as inside material.
300D: Mainly for school bags and backpacks.
420D: Mainly for school bags, cooler bags, backpacks and travel bags.
840D: Mainly for backpacks, outdoor travel bags, and hiking backpacks.
900D: Mainly for backpacks, outdoor travel bags, and hiking backpacks.
1000D: Mainly for backpacks, outdoor travel bags, and hiking backpacks.
1200D: Mainly for backpacks, and hiking backpacks.
1680D: Mainly for backpacks, hiking backpacks, computer bags and trolley bags.
Michael fabrics: Mainly for mummy bags, makeup bags and school bags.
Satin: Mainly for makeup bags and school bags.
Main advantage of Nylon:Very resilient, easy to care, resistant to insects, fungi and mildew. Have good sheen.
The disadvantage: Not absorbant, environmentally unfriendly, prone to static electricity.Paste Polyester to nylon will achieve some good features, such as waterproof, fixed and durable. The coating mainly includes PVC, PU, CPU, and TPE.
Canvas: Canvas is an extremely durable plain-woven fabric used for making daily backpacks, handbags, shopping bags and other items for which sturdiness is required. It mainly includes polyester canvas and cotton canvas. The common specifications are 6 OZ, 8OZ, 10OZ, 12OZ, 14OZ and 16OZ.
Main advantage of polyester canvas: Sturdy, durable, heat resistant, corrosion resistant and light resistant.
The disadvantage: Poor water absorption and a little hard to dyed.
Cotton Canvas:One of the most common types of canvas fabric is made out of cotton.
Main advantage: Cotton canvas is a medium-strength fabric that is between 10 and 20 times stronger when wet opposed to dry. Easily dyed and environmentally friendly. Untreated cotton canvas fabrics are absorbent and the fibers will swell as a result.
The disadvantage: The canvas is slow to dry. Because it absorbs water, the fabric is susceptible to mildew and molds.
